Technical and logistical qualifications of an environmental testing lab
There
are different environmental testing labs you can choose from but not all of
them will meet your needs. That is why you should consider the following
technical and qualifications of a lab.
Experience with sample
matrices/media and analysis
Check
whether the lab has experience analyzing the samples you wish to test. Some
labs may be specializing in analyses based on a particular matrix or a
particular type of analysis. Other labs are full-service companies that handle
different types of media/matrices and analysis.
You
should therefore determine what media/matrices and analysis you require whilst
you are planning your project. Usually, labs have a client services manager,
business manager and sales representative who works with you to determine
whether they can offer the particular lab analysis required.
State qualifications
Check
whether the lab has state certification where your tribe resides. You should
check whether the certification includes the type of sample matrices/media and
analyses of interest you want the asbestos testing near me to do
for you.
Remember
that all states don’t run their certification the same way. Some certifications
include drinking water only while others include different media. Even labs
within a given state are rarely certified for the same analytical parameters or
media. Labs are certified for specific analyses and media depending on their
interest.
Lab capacity
You
should ensure the lab has the capacity to handle your samples on the schedule
you want. Do they have enough instruments and personnel to handle your sample
load? If you aren’t generating a large number of samples, most labs can handle
our load without a problem. However, if you will generate a large number of
samples, you should ensure the lab can handle the load in its departments.
You
should discuss the sample capacity with your environmental testing labs
to ensure they can handle them.
